The film opens with Ruth Slater being released from prison after spending two decades incarcerated. THE UNFORGIVABLE is powerful for its unflinching unsentimental look at a woman whos been turned hard as stone by terrible circumstances that are revealed to have been beyond her control.

The Unforgivable keeps giving the impression that we should have some empathy for Slater a woman who served her time but it cant help tripping. The Unforgivable isnt based on a true story but it is based on a UK miniseries called Unforgiven.
